Stephen “Rusty” Lozano

Rusty Lozano is one of the leading pediatric biofeedback therapists in North Dallas. His treatment approach in the areas of headache pain, neuropathy pain, sleep issues, anxiety/phobia, and attentional issues has earned him recognition in the community as an innovator.

 

He has trained and worked under some of the biofeedback industry’s largest pioneers, beginning with his master’s degree program at the University of North Texas in Denton, TX in 2003. After two and a half years in one of the best comprehensive biofeedback programs in the country, he was proficient as a biofeedback specialist. In 2006, he pursued his doctoral degree and returned to the biofeedback program at UNT as the assistant director of the biofeedback lab, where he trained and instructed other professionals in biofeedback therapy. His instruction rotation was in biofeedback instrumentation and as a clinical treatment instructor. In 2003, Lozano was chosen by the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance to be a certified biofeedback supervisor, a position he held until 2009. Then Lozano began training in higher academic and renowned venues. He trained, interned and administered biofeedback evaluations with the Peavy-Lawlis PNP (psycho-neuroplasticity) Center, a Dr. Phil Show-associated clinic in Lewisville, TX. He was also a group facilitator and instructor with the CAARTE program at the Shelton School in Dallas. He apprenticed in neurofeedback under Dr. Joel Lubar, who is known for his historic contributions to the field of neurofeedback therapy.

 

In 2015, Lozano was a keynote speaker at the Texas Neurological Society summer conference in Ft. Worth, TX. He has been featured on all the major local news stations in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex, and has received national and international media attention for his treatment approach and results in the areas of pain conditions, anxiety, behavior, and attentional issues. Most recently, the British Broadcasting Corporation filmed a documentary on his approach, which will air in 2017. In addition, he has been featured on national radio shows, and hosts the Radio Talk Show “The Therapy Hour With Rusty Lozano” on iheart media’s Talk Radio 1190.

 

Lozano is in the process of publishing his first book on the treatment of PTSD for U.S. Servicemen, slated to be released in 2017. He is now authoring his second book on interpersonal relationship skills development. He is married, a father of four, and an avid fisherman.

He has over 15 years of experience working with children and families in a variety of settings. More recently, Rusty’s approach in the field of counseling and biofeedback has provided him with unique experiences. He mentored and practiced as a biofeedback diagnostician for Dr. Frank Lawliss and Dr. Barbara Peavy at the Psycho-Neuro-Plasticity (PNP) Clinic, a Dr. Phil associated practice in Lewisville, TX. He was recently involved in the CARRTE Research Program at the Shelton School in Dallas, TX as a facilitator in the parenting education program for ADHD children known as CUIDAR. He served as a parent facilitator for the Child Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) model at the Anne Windle School in Denton, TX. He currently serves as the assistant director to the UNT Biofeedback Laboratory where he teaches biofeedback instrumentation/practice, runs the lab, and trains therapists and other professionals to become biofeedback specialists.

 

Rusty has presented at several North Dallas schools, national, and local conferences in the DFW area on the topics of early intervention and stress in the school environment, Tourette Syndrome, pediatric anxiety/emotion management, child behavior modification, and childhood learning disabilities. He has developed several early intervention plans for north dallas schools on anxiety awareness/management and early intervention programs for teachers who work with learning different children.

 

Rusty is a University of Dallas graduate in psychology; a masters level professional counselor; and a Ph.D student at the University of North Texas, where he is furthering his study in marital counseling, family counseling, child development, child play therapy/expressive arts, animal assisted therapy, and Quantitative EEG biofeedback/biomedical research.

 

Rusty currently practices, locally, in the city of Addison, the Shelton School in Dallas, and in Plano, TX. Rusty is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). He is also a Certified Biofeedback Therapist (www.bcia.org).
